This workshop emphasizes basic verbal and physical communication skills by exploring spontaneity, active listening, risk-taking, story-telling, character development, and other fun stuff in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Laughter and positive vibes guaranteed. No prerequisite except willingness for silliness. You learn the fundamentals for creating effective improv scene work. If students are interested, class may culminate in a performance for an invited audience. Giggles, chuckles, and guffaws included in course fee. It will be one of the funniest and most fun, life strengthening things you will ever do for yourself. For more info about the Learning Points, Skills, and Games in the 101 agenda visit. Comedy tickets to National Comedy Theatre free with registration.

About The Instructor:

Jason brings years of improv experience to his workshops. Like everyone else, he took pleasure in the hilarity of Whose Line Is It Anyway. It wasn't long before he began to think, "Hey, I could do that!" Starting out with friends on a Friday or Saturday night, he'd try his own hand at the improv thing and really enjoyed it. Soon he headed for Delaware and honed his improv skills with the talented Danny Peak. From his training sessions with Danny, Jason formed the improv group the Comikazies. Jason used his skills developed with the Comikazies to secure a place with the San Antonio improv troupe, National Comedy Theatre, now ComedySportz. After four years with ComedySportz and training with many of ComedySportz veteran players such as Les McGehee, Wade Minter, Andrew Berkowitz, and Ross White to name a few, Jason has been able to utilize his improv skills to book numerous commercial and film roles.

Through Jason's workshops, students will learn the "Yes and. . ." techniques. During the workshop, Jason will encourage each person to step out of their comfort zone and make choices in their performance that they may be afraid to make. Jason is a firm believer in enjoying playtime as we all did when we were kids. Improv is an opportunity for adults to be kids again, and play.

Students will be challenged to step outside their "comfort zone" through a variety of different improv exercises.  Each exercise will focus on helping the student make new and different choices in their scenes.  There will be exercises that focus on working as a team in a scene, as well as individual exercises to help the student make unique character choices.  They will not only learn from the exercises, but from each other.
